Hon Mathias Mpuuga Declares Readiness to Contest for Presidency Seat

Democratic front party president has assured Ugandans that he is to run for the presidency seat when it’s the right time since none of the contestants is far better than him apart from age and ignorance on the politics of Uganda.

“Everything has its right timing and my time shall come and ready to fight for the presidency seat and am ready and have support on that, and those that have contested apart from those that are of elder than and those that are ignorant than me have nothing they are better than me” – Hon Mathias Mpuuga stated as he confirmed as to why he didn’t contest as president.

Hon. Mathias Mpuuga is the incumbent for Member of Parliament Masaka Kabonera and still he seeks another term in the 12th Parliament of Uganda to represent the same region and have Kuteesa Patrick for Kimanya Kabonera and Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira for Nyendo Mukungwe. On the National Unity Flag.

Mathias Mpuuga served as Member of parliament of the 11th parliament and still as the Leader of Opposition from 2021 to 2024 following his appointment by his party president as that time Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu for National Unity Platform.

After successfully serving his terms as LOP, H.E Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu appointed Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi Bisekezi as the Leader of Opposition who is also the National Unity Platform spokesperson.

Mpuuga was later not into good terms with H.E Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu on claims that he awarded his self-Five Hundred Million Uganda Shillings (500M) as service award and the National Unity Platform claimed its tax payer’s money and he was ordered to take it back and lead to their fall out.

The claimed service award fee happened to be the bigger split of their relationship and Mpuuga had to form his Opposition political party “Democratic Front- DP” and he has also presented different individuals to run in the coming elections.

Mpuuga became active in politics in his first year at Makerere University. He was part of the group that founded Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), a youth wing of the opposition Democratic Party of Uganda. He participated in the presidential campaigns of Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere in the 1996 Uganda presidential election.

Mpuuga served as a member of the Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko (Parliament) between 1998 and 2010.

In 2011, he contested for election as Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality. He won the election and went on to represent Masaka Municipality until 2021.

During this period, he served as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Appointments Committee – a committee of Parliament that vets Presidential appointees. He also served as Shadow Minister for the Presidency and Anti-corruption (2011 – 2016), and Shadow Minister for Education (2016 – 2021).

In 2021, he was re-elected as Member of Parliament representing Nyendo – Mukungwe Division. He is a former Leader of Opposition in the Ugandan Parliament having served from 2021 until January 2024.
